What is EPR?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a system in force in European Union countries that imposes an obligation on manufacturers, importers, and entities placing products on the market to finance and organize the collection and recycling of waste generated at the end of a product's life cycle. Its purpose is to reduce the impact of products and packaging on the environment.
In practice, this means that businesses placing certain products on the market are required to:
- register in the national EPR system,
- obtain a registration number,
- report the quantities of products or packaging placed on the market,
- finance waste collection and recycling.

The scope of obligations depends on the country and the type of products sold.
Does EPR Apply to Marketplace Partners?
Yes. If you sell products in markets operated by MODIVO, you may be subject to local EPR regulations.
Depending on the country of sale and the product category, MODIVO may ask you to provide an EPR number or other information confirming compliance with obligations arising from local regulations.
If you:
- ship products in packaging to a given country,
- import goods in packaging,
- sell under your own brand,
- operate cross-border shipping,
you must have the appropriate EPR number.
Important
The Partner selling on a given market is responsible for fulfilling obligations arising from EPR regulations.
How to Add an EPR Number to Your Mirakl Account?
- Go to Settings -> Shop -> Circular Economy
- Select the appropriate category for the relevant market and add your unique identifier received during the registration process in that market.
- Send registration confirmation documents to [email protected].
In the Recycling and Disposal Policy section, you can add a description specifying which products are covered by the policy and the countries or regions where it applies. This is an optional field and the information will not currently be visible to MODIVO customers.
EPR Requirements by Country
POLAND
In Poland, EPR obligations are primarily fulfilled through the BDO register (Database on Products, Packaging and Waste Management).
A BDO number may be required from businesses placing the following on the market, among others:
- Packaged products,
- Electrical and electronic equipment,
- Batteries and accumulators.
The seller should verify whether their business activity is subject to mandatory registration in the BDO register. Detailed information and registration options can be found on the BDO website.
CZECH REPUBLIC
Sellers offering products on the Czech market may be subject to obligations concerning:
- Packaging,
- Electronic equipment,
- Batteries.
These obligations are fulfilled through the relevant national recovery systems and producer responsibility organisations. Registration is available at: www.ekokom.cz
GREECE
In Greece, EPR regulations cover, among others:
- Packaging,
- Electrical equipment,
- Batteries.

GERMANY
Important
Germany has some of the most restrictive EPR regulations.
Depending on the products sold, registration in the LUCID system, participation in a dual recycling system, or registration for electrical/electronic equipment may be required.
In Germany, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive is implemented through an act known as VerpackG. If you want to ship products to Germany, you must register in the local system and provide your LUCID number in your Mirakl account.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), known as the ElektroG Act, divides electrical and electronic equipment into six categories. If you want to ship products from these categories to Germany, you must register the appropriate number in the Mirakl system, which you will receive after registering at: ear-system.de
SLOVAKIA
In Slovakia, EPR obligations include, among others:
- Packaging,
- Electrical equipment,
- Batteries.
Depending on the nature of the business activity, the seller is required to register and cooperate with a producer responsibility organisation.

In Italy, obligations primarily concern:

- Batteries.

FAQ
Does one EPR number apply in all countries? No. Each country operates its own registration system. In most cases, a separate EPR number is required for each country.
Can MODIVO request an EPR number? Yes. If required by local regulations or internal compliance procedures, MODIVO may ask a Partner to provide an EPR number or documents confirming compliance with their obligations.
What happens if I do not fulfil my EPR obligations? This may result in restrictions on your ability to sell and the requirement to provide the required documentation before continuing sales.
